Best Taxi App in Baku: All You Need to Know, Including Fares

Finding the best taxi app in Baku without headaches is a problem for many people, especially foreigners.

Indeed, most of us must deal with the tricks of taxi companies and drivers' scams daily, besides our own problems.

And sadly, like everywhere else in the world, Azerbaijan is among those joining this bandwagon.

New world order, no escape.

Maybe you're a native and more than a little familiar with the normal taxi service in Baku.

But in case you're a tourist or a newcomer to the city, it might be a total nightmare for you.

Against this background, as a Baku local for several years, I decided to write a clean and informative article.

So, if you want to know which Baku taxi app is reasonable in 2025, including its:

Cars you can choose (fleets);

Fares per ride;

General opinions on services;

And a couple of tips to avoid being a victim of scams.

This post will definitely be helpful to you.

Let's begin.

#1. Uber Azerbaijan App

Let’s start with Uber Azerbaijan application.

As you know, it's the most popular ride-hailing service in the world.

Taxi car of Uber Azerbaijan driving on a rainy day.

Firstly, you need to download the Uber Azerbaijan app from Apple or Google Play Store.

I don’t know why they needed to launch a specific application for Azerbaijan, but it’s kind of different from the original app.

So, you need to download it instead of the original one.

The Uber app for Azerbaijan simply offers 3 ride options to choose from. That is:

  • UberX

  • Select

  • Black

Now assume you have just landed (around 8 PM) at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) and your hotel is in the city center.

That is, you wish to order a trip from Baku Airport to city center.

Side note: I’ll use the same pick-up and drop-off locations (GYD to the city center of Baku) throughout the post for other taxi applications as well, so it’ll be easier for you to compare fares per ride.

Returning to Uber Azerbaijan fares through these locations, prices per trip will be more or less such for each automobile option:

- UberX: 7 AZN (3.5 USD)

- Select: 8 AZN (4.1 USD)

- Black: 17 AZN (10 USD)

But attention, I’m writing this post on a freezing cold Saturday in Baku, so there might not be as much demand for taxis outside.

Perhaps that's why Uber base fares seem lower than usual.

So don't crucify me when you see higher prices while ordering a taxi on Uber Azerbaijan or other apps.

Btw, with this app, you can do cash or card payments.

Now let’s take a look at the shortcomings of the Uber application and people's concerns about the company's services in Azerbaijan.

Drawbacks of Uber Azerbaijan

One of the main downsides of the Uber Azerbaijan app is that, at times, even after paying the driver in cash, money still gets deducted from your card later.

In some cases, money may be taken from your account in the name of Uber, even if you don't order a taxi.

These are 2 common problems of the app.

Besides, customers are sometimes frustrated by the fact that the app initially shows one fare when booking a taxi, but by the time they reach their destination, the fare has changed.

Not to mention the scamming drivers and poor service.

I’m not sure how some drivers cheat the system, but this is exactly what happened to me with Uber Azerbaijan:

I requested a taxi through the app and the driver was in my area and was reportedly waiting to pick me up.

But when I called the driver, he informed me that he was in a different area altogether.

And because of that, I was charged. This happened to me twice in a row.

I don't know for sure, but some of my friends said that "smart" drivers manipulate the GPS settings to trick the system.

Overall, I can say with certainty that Uber Azerbaijan is not the best taxi app in Baku.

Poor customer service, unreliable app, and scam taxi drivers.

You’re better off ignoring it.

#2. Bolt Taxi App

The second on the list is the Bolt Taxi application.

Locals and most commuters prefer this taxi service, mainly because it’s a bit cheaper than other taxi services in Baku.

To be honest, it used to be cheaper, but not anymore.

Bolt also has the largest fleet in Baku compared to others.

Though, it’s worth mentioning that most of the Bolt fleet consists of older Toyota Priuses.

But anyway.

Speaking of the Bolt app, it's not buggy, and it's good overall.

Unlike Uber Azerbaijan, you can sign up for Bolt Taxi using also your email and Facebook.

That’s an advantage.

If you invite someone using the Bolt app, you can also receive a Bolt promo code for Baku.

Another advantage.

You can pay for your ride with Apple Pay, Bolt balance, Google Pay, card, or cash.

One more thing: You can schedule your ride.

As for the taxi options on the Bolt app for Azerbaijan, there're 7 options that come up:

  • Eco

  • London Premium (this option is new)

  • Bolt

  • Comfort

  • Comfort+

  • Business

  • XL

Lots of options to choose. Great!

Now let our pick-up location be GYD Airport and our destination be downtown again.

The fares on Bolt app will be like that:

- Eco: 10 AZN (6 USD)

- London Premium: 38 AZN (22 USD)

- Bolt: 10 AZN (6 USD)

- Comfort: 12 AZN (7 USD)

- Comfort+: 14 AZN (8 USD)

- Business: 21 AZN (12 USD)

- XL: 15 AZN (9 USD)

As it turns out, the Bolt is not that expensive for about 25 km (15 miles).

By the way, I've provided the rounded US dollar equivalents of the prices, so keep that in mind.

Let’s see the downsides of this taxi service in Baku.

Drawbacks of Bolt Taxi in Baku

Most customers' number one complaint about Bolt is that the drivers are rude.

For exactly this reason, especially over the last few years, the reputation of this company has suffered considerably.

Another issue is payment.

If you have to request a taxi through Bolt Azerbaijan, it’ll make more sense to choose the payment option as cash.

Because the majority of the Bolt drivers do not want to accept customers who want to pay by bank card or other online payment options.

I have experienced this many times as well.

If I rate this taxi company, I’d give a maximum of 2 stars out of 5 for the eco option.

#3. Yango App

I want to mention in advance that the Yango app is the best taxi app in Baku for now.

This is completely my personal remark. But let me explain.

Yango is a rebranded version of Yandex Taxi.

Yango taxi of Azerbaijan parked in front of a residential building.

Compared to older Yandex Taxi Azerbaijan it’s way better now.

Whether it be in terms of price or fleet.

The curious thing is that in Azerbaijan there is a one-roof model of Yango with Uber AZ.

I have no idea why they work like this.

But one thing I know is that the Uber AZ app doesn't even come close to the Yango app.

Shortly, Uber definitely cannot hold a candle to Yango.

To begin with, you don't need to download a particular app for Azerbaijan like Uber.

So just download a single app from the Google or Apple store and get down to business.

Second of all, the Yango app is an all-in-one app and offers not only taxi requests but also food and simple delivery services.

Overall, I like the new rebranded layout of the app. It's easy to use and offers the best user experience among other taxi apps in Baku, Azerbaijan.

As for the options in Yango's fleet in Baku, they offer:

  • Economy

  • Comfort

  • Business

  • London Premium

  • XL

From my recent experience, they have added to their fleet, especially in the Comfort option, with new BYD cars, which are very comfortable.

It's also the cheapest taxi app in Baku.

Let’s look at the Yango app fares for the same route as Uber AZ and Bolt above:

- Economy: 6 AZN (3.5 USD)

- Comfort: 7 AZN (4.1 USD)

- Business: 15 AZN (8.8 USD)

Comparing the Yango fares per ride from GYD to the city center, it's definitely much cheaper than Uber and Bolt.

Drawbacks of Yango Taxi Service in Baku

As good as the app itself is, Yango is also unfortunately not 100% perfect when it comes to taxi services.

But in terms of services, it's way better than Uber AZ and Bolt, in my opinion.

I haven't come across it yet, but there're some sides in Yango where customers have been complaining about some drivers too.

Especially in terms of the payment method. I mean, again, the card or cash payment issue.

It’s enough about the 3 most popular taxi apps for Baku, I think.

Now let's go over 2 more taxi apps quickly and get to the point (how to book a headache-free ride in Baku).

#4. Maxim Taxi App

Maxim Taxi app is another option for people who want to request a taxi by phone.

It’s a Russian company and operates in some countries, including Azerbaijan.

Maxim taxi in Baku parked during a beautiful sunset.

The truth is, it’s not popular among both locals and foreigners in Baku.

Talking about the app, it has an old-style design. But it’s still easy to navigate.

Being able to choose a truck and hourly payment option is the nitty-gritty of the Maxim Taxi application.

There’re 4 options to select for ride:

  • Economy

  • Comfort

  • Compact MPV, 6 seats

  • Minivan, 7 seats

Fares per ride are also not as cheap compared to the others.

If we go by the airport-city center route again, the charges will be as below:

- Economy: 9 AZN (5.3 USD)

- Comfort: 11 AZN (6.5 USD)

- Compact MPV: 16 AZN (9.4 USD)

- Minivan: 19 AZN (11.1 USD)

Prices are a notch below Bolt in terms of the Economy and Comfort selections.

I haven’t personally used this taxi service so far, so I will not comment on the app or the service.

But if you ask what people think, it's poor quality. And definitely not the best taxi service in Baku.

#5. 189 Taxi Baku

Number 5, and also the last on the list, is 189 Taxi Baku.

Unlike the others on the list, this company is a local taxi service in Baku.

It also has an app on Google and Apple stores.

But the 189 Taxi Baku app is unfortunately too buggy compared to the others and not very useful in terms of user experience.

You can see this for yourself in the ratings on the Google and Apple Stores.

The reviews on this app are absolutely gut-wrenching.

Just like Maxim Taxi, I’ve not been able to use this taxi service yet.

I attempted to sign up for the app, but that was also not successful because I did’t receive the confirmation code on my phone.

That is why I've to tell you about some features and prices of the 189 Taxi application without registration.

To be honest, it'll be a headache for you to type and find pickup and drop-off locations, which should be the main feature for a taxi app.

If you’re not familiar with basic Azerbaijani, it’s most likely that you cannot find the destinations where you want to go on the app.

So, typing the destination in simple English is useless.

Secondly, another bug on the app, as I see it, is that when you tap the app icon on Android, it doesn’t launch the app directly.

Long story short, the 189 Taxi app needs a lot of work.

On the flipside, for ride options, you have 6 choices:

  • Econom

  • Comfort

  • Courier

  • Business

  • Driver

  • Minivan

For the same destination (GYD to the city center), the taxi fares on 189 taxi application are as follows:

- Econom: 22 AZN (13 USD)

- Comfort: 25 AZN (14.7 USD)

- Courier: 23 AZN (13.5 USD)

- Business: 28.6 AZN (16.80 USD)

- Driver: 36.40 AZN (21.40 USD)

- Minivan: 34 AZN (20 USD)

With these taxi fares, I can easily say 189 Taxi is by far the most expensive taxi in Baku.

I don’t know, maybe their cars and drivers are way better than the others on the list, but these prices for a ride are too high.

Useful Tips to Avoid Taxi Scams in Baku, Azerbaijan

As a tourist or first-time traveler to Baku, there are some tried-and-proven helpful tips for a headache-free journey between destinations.

From my personal experience, the best way to avoid interacting with rude or strange taxi drivers is to select much better car options, like:

Comfort;

Business, etc.

I know they’re a bit pricey, but believe me, arriving at the destination, for example, after hours of flight, without a headache is priceless.

So, rule number 1: Don’t order eco options for your first ride if you aren’t familiar with the taxi apps in Baku.

Rule number 2: If you're riding with a ride-hailing app, just check the driver's rating.

Number 3: It's a much easier rule. Don’t use taxi apps in Baku. Just use public transport.

Lastly, I hope you’ll be able to find the best taxi app in Baku after checking out this post in 2025.

And I also hope the tips for a hassle-free ride in the city of winds will be helpful to you.

I'll keep this article regularly updated with actual taxi fares.
