5 Best Companies for Car Rental in Baku: A Beginner's Guide

People often prefer coziness and easiness (for traveling from point A to point B or just for waypoints), especially when they've newly arrived in another country.

Speaking straight up, who wants to, for instance, struggle with finding taxis or public transport after landing at the airport, especially after a tiresome flight?

By all means, not a great portion of us wants to.

Instead, most of us need flexibility and, in particular, freedom: Without any hassle.

That is to say, a hired car.

But unfortunately, car hiring companies themselves might sometimes be scammers (considering that even the most popular ones on Trustpilot have pretty bad reviews from customers).

With that in mind, finding nothing fleshy on internet about renting a car in Baku (aside from fancy words on car rental company websites), I decided to show you the best companies for car rental in Baku.

So, if you’re a newbie in the city, a businessman/businesswoman, and prefer sticking around hotsy-totsy by private vehicle (even if only for a short time), this post will help you learn about car hiring companies in Baku with their:

  • Fleet

  • Prices

  • Pros and Cons

And most importantly, the best and cheapest way to rent a car in the city of the winds.

Let’s get to it.

Rent a Car in Baku: Important Information You Need to Know

Before the list of car hiring companies (worldwide giants and one local car rental in Azerbaijan), I'd like to share some important information with you.

As you know, car rental companies have their own rules and requirements.

For example, if one car rental company sets the minimum age requirement at 18 years old, another may set it at 21 years old.

On the other hand, there’re also differences in insurance coverage.

For example, some car rental companies offer a collision or loss damage waiver along with theft protection to their customers.

Which reduces your liability in the event of an accident.

The amount to be paid for the deposit also varies between car rentals in Baku.

Long story short, it’d be much better and more reasonable to ask every question you need to the car hiring company to get the exact answer.

As for the basic required documents to rent a car in Baku, you'll typically need these 3 things, just like everywhere on Earth:

#1. A valid international driver’s license.

#2. Your passport or a national ID.

#3. A credit or debit card for the security deposit.

Well, after this short disclaimer, we can go through the Baku car rental companies in depth.

#1. Hertz: Most Trusted Car Rental Company (Reputedly)

Hertz is by all odds a well-known and trusted (at least its score on Trustpilot is much better than others) name in the car rental industry on Earth.

Though there're serious questions about the credibility of Trustpilot itself as well.

Anyways.

That's not the point today.

This US based car rental company has been on the go for about 110 years.

And since 2014, in the capital city, Baku, Azerbaijan, as well.

Hertz car rental company desk at the international airport.

It’s among the other 2 (Avis and Sixt) that officially have branches inside GYD Terminal 1 (Heydar Aliyev International Airport).

So, if you want to rent a car at Baku airport right after exiting the arrival gate, it’ll be easy to hire one from Hertz (since you can ask any questions right on the spot).

However, if you want to book a car online from the official Hertz website, it might be a bit confusing.

Why?

Because there are two websites when it comes to renting a car from Hertz:

One is hertz.com (the global website), and the other is hertz.org.az (which is dedicated to Hertz's operations in Azerbaijan).

So, don't worry about hertz.org.az, because it's as legit as the global website.

You can see the details about it on the global Hertz website as well.

To be honest, the Azerbaijan-specific website has more car options than the global website.

Fleet & Prices, Pros & Cons

According to Hertz's Azerbaijan-specific website, its fleet consists of 19 cars as of 2025.

These include every type of car, from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs.

To give an example, these car brands are in the Hertz Baku fleet:

- Chevrolet Spark

- Renault Sandero

- Toyota Corolla

- Geely Emgrand

- KIA Cerato

- Toyota Prado

- Mercedes E200 and more.

All cars are fairly new (the oldest is from 2017).

The prices for hiring a car for a day start at 43 AZN (approx. 25 USD).

A good thing is that you can get discounts if you rent a car for more than 7 days.

Pros:

  • Large fleet, diverse vehicle selection for every need

  • No fees for changing the date or cancellation.

  • You can hire a car for someone else

Cons:

  • Only 4 pickup and drop-off points in Baku (3 of them at GYD airport).

  • The driver must be at least 19 years old and have a minimum of one year of driving experience (it has to be an advantage though).

  • A bit more expensive compared to other companies for car rental in Baku.

#2. Europcar: Offers Manual Transmission Vehicles

Europcar is another car rental giant operating in Baku.

Founded in 1949, this Paris, France-based company also offers cars with manual transmissions to their customers in Azerbaijan.

Diverse Europcar rental fleet, including sedan and vans in cloudy weather.

It’s, for example, much better for those who want to travel to 4x4 off-road destinations in Azerbaijan, such as Gobustan Mud Volcanoes, etc.

On the other hand, Europcar also has an office in downtown Baku (103, Hazi Aslanov Str.), which makes sense for those who want to pick up a car in the city center and enjoy the best things to do in Baku by car.

The downtown office is open from 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturdays.

Baku GYD Airport branch of Europcar, on the flipside, is open nearly 24/7 throughout the week (except for a few hours of break).

One of the other most important things about Europcar is the extensive range of available extras, like additional drivers, wireless internet, child booster seats, and so on.

All these features, in short, make it one of the best choices to rent a car in Baku.

Fleet & Prices, Pros & Cons

Europcar's fleet in Azerbaijan turns out to be the largest among global companies..

If you're 22 or over, you can choose from 24 car options to hire.

What I mean by that is that Europcar offers available cars based on age.

This simply means your age restricts the vehicle availability.

For example, if you’re 21, you’ll have only 8 options to choose from.

Some of their cars for rent in Baku include:

- Chevrolet Spark

- Hyundai I20

- Lada NIVA

- KIA Stonic

- Mercedes GLA 250

- Ford Tourneo

- Toyota Prado and more.

The prices start from 75 AZN (45 USD) for a day with a basic protection plan.

Pros:

  • The largest fleet among global car rental companies in Baku.

  • Offers manual transmission cars.

  • Downtown office.

Cons:

  • They do not hire cars to drivers under 21 years old.

  • Drivers under 23 are charged an additional driver surcharge.

  • Expensive.

#3. Sixt: Offers Luxury Cars

Number 3 on the list is the famous Germany-based car rental company Sixt, which offers luxury cars to its customers in Baku as well.

As I’ve said above, Sixt has an official branch inside Baku Airport Terminal 1 in the arrival hall.

So, after a long flight, instead of struggling with taxi apps in Baku, hiring a car from Sixt may be a nice option for you.

Just as soon as you get off the plane.

Sixt Rent a Car company with a luxury black SUV in front.

Its GYD branch is open 24/7.

On the flip side, it also has a head office in the heart of the city (107A, Zarifa Aliyeva Str.), just near the Baku Sea Terminal, where the Caspian Cruise Ship tour starts.

By the way, it’s also the area where the best 5 star hotels in Baku are located, along the Caspian Sea.

The head office working hours are on weekdays from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Saturdays from 8 AM to 4 PM.

On Sundays and holidays, it’s closed.

Fleet & Prices, Pros & Cons

To be clear, Sixt’s fleet in Baku is not as large as other global car rental companies.

But it differentiates itself with its luxury car options.

If you are between the ages of 21 to 25, you can only choose from 3 options.

Customers aged 25 to 30 can choose from 12 cars based on their needs.

People aged 30+ have one more option, allowing them to choose the most luxurious car in the fleet.

You can select one of these car options from Sixt's fleet in Baku:

- Hyundai Accent

- Toyota Corolla

- Toyota Camry

- Lexus RX300

- Mercedes V Class

- Toyota Land Cruiser

- Mercedes S Class (If you’re +30) and more.

The prices are pretty similar to Europcar.

They start from 81 AZN (48 USD).

And go up to 1820 AZN (1073 USD) for the most luxury car for a day.

Pros:

  • Offers luxury cars in Baku.

  • Has a branch right inside GYD Terminal 1.

  • Pick-up and drop-off out of opening hours.

Cons:

  • The driver must be at least 21 years old.

  • The driver's license must have been held for at least 2 years.

  • Too expensive.

In short, I’d recommend Sixt for businessmen/women rather than regular drivers like me.

It can definitely be counted as the most luxurious car rental in Baku among worldwide companies, with its cars and services.

#4. addCar: Cheapest Car Rental in Baku (Among Global Firms)

Compared to the big car hiring companies mentioned above, addCar Rental is relatively new, having been founded in 2005.

This Latvia-based company initially established cooperation with airBaltic with only five cars in the capital city of Riga.

But today, it operates in almost 30 countries, including Azerbaijan.

The main idea of addCar Rental is to offer much cheaper options for its customers.

And indeed, it’s among the cheapest car rental options in Baku, considering its increasing global recognition.

They also have a GYD car rental location (outside the airport), which might be an option for you to rent a car and drive, for example, from Baku Airport to the city center.

To be honest, I personally have had no experience with this car rental in Baku so far.

However, as for the prices they offer, it seems quite well-balanced and within reason.

Fleet & Prices, Pros & Cons

For its lower prices, addCar Rental's fleet consists of mostly low-cost autos.

Its Baku fleet includes 9 vehicles and their equivalents like:

- KIA Picanto

- KIA Rio

- Hyundai Accent

- Toyota Rav4 etc.

Among the cars, there's also the Toyota Land Cruiser or similar in the luxury segment available for hire.

The prices start from around 40 AZN (23.5 USD) for a day.

Pros:

  • Relatively cheap car rental in Baku.

  • Free collision damage waiver and theft protection.

  • Round-the-clock service.

  • Returning the car outside of normal working hours without a dime (for Baku City Office at 2/28, Ahmad Rajabli Str.).

Cons:

  • They do not hire cars to drivers under 24 years old.

  • Not accepting debit cards, only credit cards.

And one more thing:

They require an International Driving Permit (IDP) as part of the required documents.

#5. AZNUR Rent a Car Baku: Not Just Only for the Capital City

Fifth and final on the list is one of the most famous local Baku car rentals, AZNUR.

AZNUR has been in service since 2002, not only in Baku but also in other tourist destinations of Azerbaijan, like Gabala and Ganja.

So, it might be a good option not just for finding a car rental at Baku airport but also for picking up a car near the best hotels in Baku (like Fairmont Baku, Flame Towers etc.) and in other top destinations outside the capital city.

For example, you can pick up your car in Gabala and enjoy the best activities in the vicinity.

Like touring Nohur Lake or visiting the Yeddi Gozel Waterfall.

Fleet & Prices, Pros & Cons

AZNUR Rent a Car Baku, compared to all the companies on the list, has the largest car park.

Its fleet consists of a whopping 33 various car options, ranging from premium segments to pick-up trucks and more.

No more, no less.

And they’re consistently adding new cars to their fleet day by day.

Let's take a look at some of the cars that AZNUR offers for rent:

- Chevrolet Spark

- Suzuki Swift

- Skoda Rapid

- KIA Cerato

- Toyota Camry

- Mercedes E-Class

- Volkswagen ID.6 Crozz

- Hyundai H1

- Mitsubishi L200 and so forth.

As for the prices, having to hand it to them, it's the cheapest car rental on the entire list (even cheaper than addCar).

The prices per day start at 40 AZN and go up to 147 AZN (approx. 85 USD).

It’s indeed fairly affordable, even for premium class cars.

Pros:

  • In service outside of Baku as well, in Gabala and Ganja.

  • The cheapest on the list.

  • Minimum age is 21.

  • No need IDP (only driver license and ID)

  • Car rental with a driver option.

  • Electric car and pick-up truck option.

Cons:

  • Local only.

  • A 20 AZN (12 USD) pick-up and drop-off charge.
